Arcade2TV-XR firmware recovery: USB-B only during recovery

When an Arcade2TV-XR is no longer detected by the configurator after a firmware attempt, has no lights, but still makes a USB sound or button beeps, treat it as a firmware-recovery case before assuming the board is dead.

Confirmed recovery path

Ticket 31142 produced a useful correction to the earlier automation draft. The automation draft told the customer to add USB-C wall power during the firmware-recovery sequence. Support's public reply instead instructed the customer to connect through the rear USB-B data cable and not connect USB-C wall power during that initial recovery/detection process.

After following the public instructions, the customer confirmed that the PC recognized the controller and they updated the controller firmware to V3.64. This confirms the USB-B recovery path restored configurator recognition in this case.

Reusable draft guidance:

  1. Use a Windows PC and connect the Arcade2TV-XR directly with the rear square USB-B / printer-style data cable.
  2. Avoid hubs, docks, and front-panel USB ports.
  3. For firmware recovery/detection, do not add USB-C wall power unless Matt or a current source specifically says to for a separate lighting-power diagnostic.
  4. Open the Arcade2TV-XR software as administrator.
  5. If the controller is detected, run Factory Reset before attempting more changes.
  6. If it is not detected, close the software, unplug USB-B, hold the force-firmware / bottom-left button while reconnecting USB-B, then release after USB-B is connected.
  7. Wait for the software to show an initiated/handshake state, then flash the correct Arcade2TV-XR controller firmware, not dongle or haptics firmware.
  8. After flashing, run Factory Reset before disconnecting.

Remaining lighting and dongle follow-up

If the controller is recovered and responds in the configurator but the touch-panel lights remain off, support's next public guidance was:

Do not mark the lighting or dongle portion as confirmed yet. Customer confirmation currently covers controller recognition and controller firmware update only.

Support's public recovery reply included an inline image showing the force-firmware / bottom-left button reference.

Local-only reference image:

Do not include local paths or cloud backup URLs in customer-facing drafts unless Matt explicitly asks for an image link or attachment.

Drafting Rule

For future Arcade2TV-XR firmware recovery drafts, keep the recovery connection instructions separate from lighting-power diagnostics. Do not automatically combine USB-C wall power with the USB-B forced firmware recovery path.
