Legacy Tankstick Mode 4 Upgrade Check

Reusable Support Guidance

When a customer asks whether an older Tankstick can be upgraded or whether it has the older electronics, support can ask them to test the rear mode switch and PC detection behavior:

  1. Toggle the rear switch to Mode 4.
  2. Connect both cables to a Windows PC.
  3. Check whether the controller side is detected only as a keyboard-style controller, or whether it is detected as a modern gamepad/controller mode.

If the unit only works as a keyboard-style controller, it likely has the older generation PCB. In that case, the customer can upgrade to the newer Tri-Mode system by replacing the internal PCB with the current upgrade kit.

Quality Gate Notes

This is a human public support answer and is reusable as an authoritative product-support drafting reference, but it is not a customer-confirmed resolution yet. Use as a diagnostic/upgrade-path answer with the word "likely" when the detection behavior has not been fully verified.
