Haptics ringing noise fixed by upgraded power source
Confirmed Learning
For X-Force Haptics Kit cases where the customer hears a high ringing, whine, or squelch through the speakers when the haptics power brick/cable is turned on, the upgraded noise-reduction power supply is a confirmed fix path for at least one customer.
Ticket 31023 confirmed:
- Original symptom: subtle but constant high squelch/ringing through the speakers when the haptics power brick/cable was on.
- Support had explained that mild background hum/noise can be power-supply related and recommended the upgraded 24V 5A noise-reduction power supply for customers sensitive to audio noise.
- Customer later reported they bought the new power source and that it works great.
- Customer explicitly apologized for not replying sooner so the ticket could be closed.
Drafting Guidance
When this symptom appears:
- First separate audio-path noise from a broader hardware failure by asking whether the noise changes when the 3.5mm audio cable is disconnected, the cable is reseated, or the audio cable is routed away from the power brick.
- If the issue is a mild but objectionable ringing/whine/hum and the kit otherwise works, the upgraded noise-reduction power supply can be recommended as a proven fix option.
- Do not treat this as a firmware issue unless the customer also reports firmware/update symptoms.
- If the customer reports a flash/crack, dead controller, no LEDs, or software detection failure after changing power supplies, stop the audio-noise branch and escalate as possible power-chain or PCB hardware failure.
Closure Rule
If the latest customer message confirms the recommended fix worked, thanks support, and gives no new unresolved question, the ticket is a closure candidate. Ticket 31023 was closed with Matt's explicit approval.
