Original Xbox / CoinOps adapter sync issue
Useful Answer
If CoinOps on an original Xbox only boots games after unplugging and reconnecting the X-Arcade adapter, the issue may be related to how the console handles USB power during boot. A physical reconnect can force the controller/adapter to sync after the game loads.
For original Xbox, the X-Arcade 2-in-1 adapter is the correct adapter path; a Brook adapter is not needed for that setup.
There is no controller button sequence that powers on an original Xbox from a fully off state. The console must be started with its physical power button.
If a new adapter does not change the behavior, the next suspects are:
- The internal Tankstick PCB / thumbstick control board.
- The wiring harness.
- Console-side boot/sync behavior specific to the original Xbox and CoinOps.
If the controller does not light up or respond after the console is on:
- Set the Tankstick rear toggle to Mode 1.
- Make sure the DB9 console cable is connected to the 2-in-1 adapter.
- Open the unit and reseat the long white Molex connector on the circuit board.
For Switch 2 testing through adapters:
- Set the Tankstick rear toggle to Mode 1 / Keyboard Mode.
- Enable Pro Controller Wired Communication in Switch settings.
- Fully restart the console after changing that setting.
- Press and hold left flipper + Player 1 to initiate the handshake.
- Update Brook Wingman XE2 adapters to the latest Switch 2 supported firmware.
Source Context
The customer had an older Tankstick and original Xbox/CoinOps setup that previously worked but later required hot-plugging the adapter after each game loaded. A replacement adapter did not fully resolve the symptom.
